12:19:19 From Geert D'haene : yes it is 12:19:44 From John Flaherty : What is? 12:19:56 From John Flaherty : My audio? 12:30:38 From Geert D'haene : happy monade :-) 12:30:45 From Geert D'haene : monday 12:30:55 From Glenn Workman : Geert: Howdy. 12:31:07 From Yuri : Hello everyone 12:32:58 From Yuri : Bay Area is fine right now 12:33:17 From Glenn Workman : If you need to ask a question: you can open the Participants panel and click the Raise hand button. Matt or I will send a request to unmute your mic to ask your question. 12:38:41 From Glenn Workman : MOTU interfaces that use the CueMix software generally have the option to have Direct hardware playthrough. 12:39:17 From Jay Farber : Morning Glenn 12:39:28 From Glenn Workman : Some interfaces have a Mix knob that combine the input and the software output together. 12:39:33 From Glenn Workman : Hi Jay. 12:43:18 From Glenn Workman : This is the interface for all the AVB interfaces from MOTU. Works with any browser on Mac or PC, Android, iPhone, iPad, etc. 12:44:43 From Glenn Workman : If you have the audio coming from 2 places you’ll typically have a small delay on one of those signals and/or get a change in sound due to phase cancellation. 12:51:21 From Glenn Workman : The Mix knob is a balance between the original (dry) signal and the processed (wet) effect. When it is directly on the track it acts like a seesaw, the lower the percentage the more you hear the dry signal, and vice versa. 12:53:44 From Glenn Workman : If you have any question you’d like to ask Matt, open the Participants panel and click the Raise Hand button. 12:59:45 From Glenn Workman : Basically - the various monitoring modes give you the option to have whatever method suits your working process the best. 13:01:20 From Glenn Workman : With Overdub OFF it acts much like a tape deck of old, items on the track are replaced. However the older audio IS still available in the SoundBites window (its not destructive). 13:02:38 From Glenn Workman : Overdub ON creates layers, much like a graphic program, and you only hear the audio you can see. 13:05:55 From Glenn Workman : If you do have layers of audio where you can’t see what’s underneath, there is a short video (created using DP, but the process is the same) here that shows you how to take the layers and turn them into takes. A bit advanced but easy to understand: https://www.freqsound.com/motuuserfiles/TrainingVideos/TurningLayersIntoTakes.mp4 13:08:34 From Glenn Workman : You could use that to very quickly create harmony parts for vocals, or horn parts etc. 13:08:56 From Thomas Suczek : Can you turn tracks or takes into layers on one track lane? 13:09:57 From Glenn Workman : Thomas: Yes, there is the opposite of Turn Takes into Tracks, that is turn Tracks into Takes (or Absorb - I can’t check the actual verbiage at the moment). 13:10:14 From Thomas Suczek : cool 13:10:44 From Glenn Workman : Thomas: Merge (in the Edit menu NOT the Audio menu) will also lay audio on top of existing audio on a track. 13:11:26 From Thomas Suczek : So noted! 13:12:38 From Glenn Workman : I’m a fan of using a Duplicate Take (same little drop down menu where Takes are) before I Merge things, just in case I have to re-edit something. 13:13:28 From Thomas Suczek : Kind of a save as 13:13:29 From Glenn Workman : Like he just did :) 13:14:54 From Mark Rasmussen : Glenn: I got a call so I missed the last 15 minutes,….did he do the overdub in memory cycle where you don’t stop and the next take comes up on a new track? 13:15:17 From Mark Rasmussen : Or is it just overdub and explode out the tracks? 13:15:28 From Glenn Workman : Mark: Yes. Do you need to see that again? We can do a quick Zoom afterwards if you like. 13:15:55 From Mark Rasmussen : Please, maybe I can ask after the session? Or if you can show me after 13:15:57 From Glenn Workman : Sorry, misread, not new track, but new take. He used Turn Takes into Tracks. 13:16:39 From Mark Rasmussen : Is that the method/. You just new take in overdub mode? Then explode out the tracks into new takes? 13:16:56 From Mark Rasmussen : new takes into tracks (backwards) 13:17:20 From Glenn Workman : Mark: Each time through a loop, you can be creating a new take. Once you hit stop, there is an option in the Take menu to turn Takes into Tracks. 13:17:34 From Mark Rasmussen : Exactly, thank you,…… 13:18:25 From Mark Rasmussen : so how do I set it up so that the new recording in loop mode is it creates a new take? Or does it do that automatically/ 13:18:42 From Glenn Workman : Right now all the versions of the file share the assets in the enclosed folders. He’s copying JUST the files that are part of the currently open project to a new location, leaving the originals in place as well. 13:19:03 From Glenn Workman : Mark: Overdub button needs to be on. 13:19:12 From Mark Rasmussen : OK 13:20:19 From Glenn Workman : Mark: Do you use DP and/or Performer Lite? 13:20:33 From Mark Rasmussen : DP 13:20:38 From Glenn Workman : I have a little project I give students in DP that shows how to do this. 13:21:07 From Glenn Workman : Send me an email, and I’ll send it to you. Its step by step on what buttons to turn on. glenn@freqsound.com 13:21:19 From Mark Rasmussen : Thanks Glenn 13:21:22 From Mark Rasmussen : Will do 13:21:42 From Glenn Workman : Anyone else is free to email me with questions. I don’t work for MOTU but have been a dealer for theirs since 1985 and still test their software before its release. 13:26:29 From Jay Farber : Thanks Guys 13:29:47 From Glenn Workman : Bus/Send/Aux are used by different hardware software to basically mean a place to route signal. Much like a physical patchbay (think of an old time telephone operator, plugging cables into holes). You can route signal from any source via a bus to any other destination in the software. 13:31:50 From Glenn Workman : Busses can also be named - this helps my brain to know where things are really going. 13:33:30 From Glenn Workman : In Matt’s example, Aux 1 is basically a master fader (or group master) for the 6 audio tracks BEFORE they go to the Main output. 13:35:05 From Glenn Workman : At any time you can save the chat by clicking on the 3 dot bubble that is in the Chat typing field 13:35:19 From Mark Rasmussen : Thanks Glenn\ 13:36:41 From Mark Rasmussen : :)
