13:41:42 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : Jonathan: 13:41:43 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : https://motu.com/en-us/products/software/dp/webinars/ 13:41:51 From Jonathan Scales : Thanks Jim! 13:42:03 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : Videos coming soon…. 13:43:01 From Roddy J. Betancourt : Is he pressing “1” or “. 1”? 13:43:26 From Jay Woelfel : I've had the same problem he's talking about, but have never figured out what I did or didn't do. 13:43:49 From Jay Woelfel : I'm not sure if it had done that since the upgrade. 13:44:07 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : Jay: be sure to check those preferences that Matt just showed 13:44:24 From Adam Goldman : memory return? 13:44:37 From amodeostudios : Jules: Happens to me all the time, and I find that I’ll go into the scrolling preference and the tracks window for some reason is not selected. Sometimes it’s another window in a different project. Make sure you select all. 13:45:27 From Jay Woelfel : Maybe it is some memory thing I've accidentally hit without intending to. I've only had this happen once in a blue moon, but have never figured out. 13:46:18 From Jay Woelfel : these type things it's always nice to hear it's not just you or your computer being out to get just you for some reason. 13:46:34 From Roddy J. Betancourt : Jim: was DJ Jules pressing “1” or “. 1” during playback? 13:46:42 From Roddy J. Betancourt : Not sure what he meant. 13:46:57 From Sandor Szatmari : I have a question about the Track assignments window Matt showed… 13:47:07 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : Roddy: sorry I missed what he said…. 13:47:13 From Jay Woelfel : When this has happened to me it behaves like the 1 or .1 has been totally deactivated 13:47:21 From Chris Duval : Roddy typing 1 on the extended numeric keypad is “Rewind” 13:47:22 From Roddy J. Betancourt : He said pressing “1” wouldn’t go back to bar 1. 13:47:23 From Larry Ballereau : how do I set the tracks to go to the aux track? 13:47:35 From Roddy J. Betancourt : Correct. I press . 1 13:47:40 From Roddy J. Betancourt : to go to start 13:47:49 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : Right then he probably meant the extended keypad 1 13:48:06 From Glenn Workman : Larry: The Output column in the the Tracks Overview. Or in the Mixing Board I/O is there as well (and other places) 13:48:17 From Roddy J. Betancourt : Then all he has to do is press “. 1” not “1” by itself. 13:48:20 From Jay Woelfel : I am talking about the number pad. Anyway thanks for the ideas 13:48:33 From Roddy J. Betancourt : I’m using the number pad also 13:48:36 From Paige Wheeler : Will it be possible to see these webinars again? 13:49:17 From Glenn Workman : Paige: They are being edited and will posted on the MOTU site, and the motuTV YouTube channel. 13:49:21 From george 'nk_e' napier : I’ve had the same thing forever 13:49:50 From Glenn Workman : https://motu.com/en-us/products/software/dp/webinars/ 13:49:56 From Roddy J. Betancourt : I wouldn’t delete from Audio MIDI Setup 13:50:03 From Roddy J. Betancourt : unless he’s not needing them 13:50:04 From jraoul : Audio MIDI Setup is Apple, not part of DP 13:50:08 From Roddy J. Betancourt : Correct 13:50:11 From Roddy J. Betancourt : It’s global 13:50:20 From Vanessa Garde : But Melodyne, Reason, Sibelius, etc. will install their bundle’s for rewiring, right? 13:50:20 From Roddy J. Betancourt : He’ll disconnect those devices 13:50:50 From Neil McCarroll : I’ve had the same problem Warren, hope these solutions work :) 13:51:04 From Roddy J. Betancourt : Warren: Make sure you don’t want to use those devices if you delete them from Audio MIDI Setup 13:52:36 From Roddy J. Betancourt : I tried doing what Matt just stated with my MOXF6, and most didn’t work 13:52:38 From Andrew Culver : Jim can you ask Matt to talk about ore and post fader effects and some use cases 13:52:58 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : Warren: are you talking about the input menu for MIDI tracks or audio tracks? If you’re talking about MIDI tracks, also check Setup menu > Interapplication MIDI 13:53:20 From Jeff Jarvis : Warren: there is a shortcut to open Audio/MIDI Setup on the DP Setup menu 13:54:07 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : Andrew: will do (at an opportune moment) 13:54:52 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : Do you guys still hear heaving breathing? I don’t think it’s me, but if you do, I’ll try muting myself to see if it goes away. 13:54:54 From Andrew Culver : Thx Jim 13:55:10 From Jacki Barineau : Is there a way to record enable or disable - or automation play enable/disable for all tracks at once? 13:56:38 From Glenn Workman : Andrew: Typically pre would be on if you are sending a mix to monitor wedges, headphones to players in a studio, other speaker systems. Any place you don’t want changing the main mixer to affect those destinations. Normally if you route tracks to an effect like Reverb, when you pull the fader down you’d want the send to go down with it (Post fader). That way when a track volume goes down you don’t have a disembodied Reverb that continues. You can do that if you like, its just not the main use case. 13:58:07 From Glenn Workman : Jacki: Option-drag across mute/solo etc. Or a 2 click solution is command-click one (everyone but me) then click the same one without the command key. 13:58:29 From Andrew Culver : Glenn: We may be talking about different things. I am talking about placing effects before or after the fader (the little black triangle is I am not mistaken) 13:58:51 From Dan : I get what Warren is talking about. Tracks window, right click input, below my interface options I have Melodyne, Izotope options though none are loaded in my project. Those aren’t setup in Audio MIDI. Or Bundles 13:58:57 From Dan Redfeld : I use the older Macke control surface. When I plugged it into my new system it worked beautifully. I reached out to Mackie with a question and they refused to answer unless I bought a new unit! I figured it out and you guys definitely support it beautifully. 13:59:06 From Jacki Barineau : Thanks Glenn! 13:59:48 From Benoit Turgeon : How come when I use a plug-in with integrated sliders such as addictive drums or philharmonic 2 the sliders of the tracks in the mixing board of dp don’t work 14:00:14 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : Jacki: you can use Matt’s temporary track group trick to change the automation mode across many/all tracks. 14:00:43 From Jacki Barineau : Oh great, thanks Jim! 14:00:55 From xavi c : Once the webinar is over, can we see it again later? 14:01:13 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : Xavi: yes. https://motu.com/en-us/products/software/dp/webinars/ 14:01:14 From Glenn Workman : https://motu.com/en-us/products/software/dp/webinars/ 14:01:37 From xavi c : Thanks Jimm and Glenn 14:01:49 From stevenwatson1 : Temp tools ?? did I miss something? 14:01:55 From Simon Foster : what was the w and tapping selection again? 14:02:54 From Roddy J. Betancourt : Simon: double tap W and selects all visible tracks 14:03:08 From Roddy J. Betancourt : you can now affect all 14:03:19 From Jacki Barineau : Does a new mix then override any of the volumes set in events list? 14:03:19 From Roddy J. Betancourt : single click W and it releases. 14:03:47 From Jeff Jarvis : taking a snapshot has made a huge improvement to my work flow! I wish I had been using this feature a long time ago. 14:04:09 From Roddy J. Betancourt : Jacki: Unless you alter the volume in the mixer 14:04:13 From Glenn Workman : Jacki: New mix will delete all plug-ins and any automation. 14:04:19 From Simon Foster : thx Roddy! 14:04:43 From Jacki Barineau : Great thanks! 14:04:45 From Michael Canavan : Hey Jim Cooper, I didn’t catch your email address the other day RE; Clips Bitwig Live etc. 14:04:50 From stevenwatson1 : Can you filter new mix to leave just fader levels? 14:04:51 From Roddy J. Betancourt : That’s why I do as Matt said and duplicate the current or initial mix 14:05:34 From Glenn Workman : Jacki: Duplicate mix will keep everything intact to you can make changes to a mix (add plug-ins, update automation etc.). Then you can compare mixes, or make alternate ones like a TV track, instrumental only, etc. 14:05:52 From Paul Williams : Can I assign a VCA to send levels? 14:06:22 From Jacki Barineau : Got it Glenn! 14:07:00 From XNE0EDzQEHm8GRxQaLxinmGjSWFg3sTfrEZ5Uy7WYuo= : How do you get to the effects again? 14:07:01 From Glenn Workman : stevenwatson: If choose new mix the faders remain at their current position (where the counter was when you created the new mix). You can then take a snapshot of those levels. 14:07:21 From stevenwatson1 : Thanks Glenn ! 14:07:34 From Roger Neill : I just chose “Recent” and plugins show up that i have never opened 14:07:43 From Glenn Workman : Busses remain as well, just plug-ins and automation are removed. 14:07:58 From stevenwatson1 : Copy Glenn Thanks again! 14:08:07 From Roddy J. Betancourt : I guess those plug-ins felt neglected. 14:08:18 From Roger Neill : i guesa 14:08:31 From Roger Neill : that makes the RECENT function useless to me 14:08:35 From Glenn Workman : XN: You can click on any empty slot in the Mixing Board. 14:08:52 From Glenn Workman : XN: He also is doing it right now in the Sequence Window. 14:09:09 From Chris Duval : I love that you can get to your effects in the sequence editor now… 14:09:50 From XNE0EDzQEHm8GRxQaLxinmGjSWFg3sTfrEZ5Uy7WYuo= : What about the other lanes like vibrato? 14:10:45 From Glenn Workman : XN: Any parameter you can automate can show as a lane. They don’t populate in the popup list unless they actually exist (have data already). 14:10:55 From Ken Thies : I do not have that little sub menu button in the sequence editor. 14:11:31 From Glenn Workman : Ken: If you mean the little triangle, click where it is. Some Themes seem to make it invisible, at least that’s my experience. 14:11:44 From Glenn Workman : The one that shows lanes. 14:12:28 From Mark Kelso : We can edit volume but can we edit pitch in place using a shortcut? 14:12:36 From Ken Thies : The lanes I can get, the one at the top, which he used to show the inserts (or was it sends) in the sequence. 14:12:56 From Ken Thies : Sorry, the one at the top is the one I do not have. 14:13:27 From Ernest Buckley : That learn button is awfully small. MOTU, please make fonts larger or allow user to control the size. As we get older, the sight Ain`t what it used to be. 14:13:46 From Glenn Workman : As the tracks get thinner or taller, that popup menu triangle appears/disappears and combines some parameters 14:13:55 From Roddy J. Betancourt : Does Matt have his controller plugged in via MIDI cable or USB to his interface or direct to the MacBook?? 14:14:17 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : Roddy: USB direct 14:14:27 From Roddy J. Betancourt : to the laptop? 14:14:46 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : Yep 14:14:46 From Roddy J. Betancourt : or audio interface? 14:14:51 From Roddy J. Betancourt : OK. Thanks! 14:15:44 From Simon Foster : If i double tap w in the seq window to select all - how do I resize all the lanes at the same time? 14:15:49 From Roddy J. Betancourt : I have my Yamaha MOXF6 via MIDI cables to my Saffire Pro40, but I saw I also connected the USB out of the Yamaha to my iMac. 14:15:58 From Robert Turner : Is there a way to enable and disable an effect plug-in from within the sequence? 14:16:04 From XNE0EDzQEHm8GRxQaLxinmGjSWFg3sTfrEZ5Uy7WYuo= : What is it called, midi love? 14:16:10 From Ken Thies : Inserts list in sequence, found it. It goes away if the track is not tall enough. 14:16:11 From XNE0EDzQEHm8GRxQaLxinmGjSWFg3sTfrEZ5Uy7WYuo= : learn? 14:16:13 From Mark Kelso : Will the learned controller continue to work in the background? 14:16:27 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : Mark: yes 14:16:35 From Glenn Workman : Robert: option-click the plug-in puts it in bypass/unbypass 14:17:30 From Mark Kelso : Jim: So I need to be careful not to assign the same parameter in multiple plugins, correct? 14:17:39 From Robert Turner : I want to use a MIDI controller in the sequence to enable and disable the plug-in. 14:17:53 From Robert Turner : In a MIDI track. 14:18:00 From Glenn Workman : Ken: Yes, it its too narrow even the zoom and P buttons start to graphically stack on top and get a bit ugly. 14:18:04 From Mark Kelso : JIm: The same controller in multiple plugins 14:18:16 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : Mark: I think it connects to only one parameter at a time. 14:18:29 From Mark Kelso : Okay, that sounds safer. Thanks 14:19:15 From craigwinn : Are all of the Zoom sessions recorded so that they can be reviewed later? 14:20:02 From Glenn Workman : When edited they will be here: https://motu.com/en-us/products/software/dp/webinars/ 14:20:16 From Simon Foster : thanks all - got dinner! 14:20:29 From Robert Turner : Jim... I want to assign a MIDI controller to enable and disable the effect within a MIDI track. Is this possible? 14:20:35 From craigwinn : Thanks 14:21:13 From James Paschall : Awesome! 14:21:53 From Andrew Culver : Thanks for that Jim 14:21:55 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : Robert: I think you could assign it to the bypass button. 14:22:20 From Glenn Workman : Robert/Jim: I was just trying that, but it just went into bypass (no MIDI assignment created). 14:22:34 From XNE0EDzQEHm8GRxQaLxinmGjSWFg3sTfrEZ5Uy7WYuo= : Would it be possible for Matt to show the midi learn once more? 14:22:38 From Robert Turner : I've tried several different MIDI controllers, but they don't work. 14:22:51 From Hiro : Questiin! 14:23:03 From Roddy J. Betancourt : Robert: That’s what I was stating about my MOXF6 14:23:10 From Roddy J. Betancourt : It should, but it isn’t. 14:23:31 From craigwinn : Do you have any idea how long it will take for the Zoom sessions to be edited so that they can be presented for review? 14:23:33 From Robert Turner : I was thinking there is a particular controller to enable and disable the effect. 14:23:47 From Roddy J. Betancourt : I think Yamaha has made integrating their keyboards with MOTU difficult so you end up using Cubase. 14:24:12 From Hiro : I assigned MIDI control knob to a fader to record fader movement. but how can I clear this assignment? I need to move another fader? 14:25:29 From David Stowell : R click and use the same drop menu as you used to assign the controller to the remove it 14:25:51 From Robert Turner : Here's the application: I have a MIDI guitar that has a fuzz box, but I want to turn the fuzz box on and off at particular times in the sequence. Can I do this with a MIDI controller? 14:27:10 From Glenn Workman : Roddy/Jim: My MIDI controller was not sending to DP. Yes I had NO trouble assigning a MIDI controller to Bypass for a plug-in. 14:27:38 From Glenn Workman : Hiro: I’m not sure how to clear the Learned control. I’ll look into it. I have your email if I don’t get it before the webinar ends. 14:27:38 From stevenwatson1 : I didn’t get that how does he send to a verb without using a send?? 14:28:08 From Robert Turner : Glenn: What controller # did you use? 14:28:25 From Roddy J. Betancourt : Interesting situation, Glenn. 14:28:38 From Glenn Workman : Robert:Mod wheel and also sustain pedal. 14:29:05 From Robert Turner : Ok. I will try sustain. Thanks. 14:29:34 From Hiro : Thank you Glenn. I use AKAI MPK miniII and assigned K8 knob to a fader, but I can not clear this assignment. 14:29:51 From charleswhite : MAKE A TRASH MIDI TRACK 14:29:54 From Steve Sklar : Any particular budget-friendly MIDI controllers that folks recommend for DP? 14:30:05 From Benoit Widemann : +1 for MIDI input 14:30:12 From Roddy J. Betancourt : Glenn/Jim: I reached out to Yamaha a few years back about the issues with the MOXF6 not communicating with DP but they only wanted to help if I was using Cubase. 14:30:45 From Glenn Workman : Hiro: Its in the Contoller Assignments window. It appears like a new console window or in the sidebar. 14:30:46 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : OK, Roddy, I’ll look into buying out Yamaha so we can correct the situation. 14:30:53 From David Stowell : I use a controller from ICON and it works well, motorised too for the money 14:30:55 From Robert Turner : I use an Alesis Q61 controller. It's a "plain-Jane" but does most of everything I do with MIDI. 14:31:01 From Roddy J. Betancourt : That be great Jim! 14:31:06 From Roddy J. Betancourt : I’ll buy stock. 14:31:09 From Roddy J. Betancourt : lol 14:31:13 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : : ) 14:32:30 From Glenn Workman : Hiro: Project/Consoles/Controller Assignments 14:32:49 From Edward @ L A Music Lab : To Jim, it would be nice if when you select a soundbite in the Sequence window, it would also highlight in the Soundbite window. (Like it does is P.T.) 14:33:27 From stevenwatson1 : How does Terry Send to a verb without using a send to keep the verb in pre gen ??… didn’t quite follow that . 14:33:29 From Terry Leigh Britton : @stevenwatson You do use a send into a bus, but make the audio track receive its input from that bus. You use the input monitor to hear the plugin, record the result, then turn off the record arm and input monitor and the plugin goes into pregen mode. 14:33:54 From Jim Cooper (MOTU) : Thanks Terry 14:34:14 From XNE0EDzQEHm8GRxQaLxinmGjSWFg3sTfrEZ5Uy7WYuo= : What his pre get? 14:34:20 From XNE0EDzQEHm8GRxQaLxinmGjSWFg3sTfrEZ5Uy7WYuo= : pre gen? 14:34:24 From Hiro : Glenn: Project/Consoles/Controller Assignments is checked and can not make it unchecked. 14:34:25 From stevenwatson1 : Ahhhh very smart Terry … Thanks !! 14:34:55 From Caxa : Make a mixer group 14:34:56 From Joel Friedman : Have to go, thank you! 14:35:07 From Terry Leigh Britton : Pre Gen computes the plugin effect in advance rather than in real time, effectively making that track a normal audio track on-the-fly during playback. 14:35:21 From Terry Leigh Britton : So, plugin is not running in real time eating up the CPU. 14:35:43 From Terry Leigh Britton : That's after you've captured it. 14:35:49 From Glenn Workman : Hiro: in the Controller Assignments panel that appears (on my screen it keeps appearing in the right sidebar) I can highlight a control and just hit delete to make it go away). 14:36:40 From XNE0EDzQEHm8GRxQaLxinmGjSWFg3sTfrEZ5Uy7WYuo= : Thanks Terry. 14:37:22 From Glenn Workman : Hiro: If you’re talking about in the Mixer, Clear Controller is in the mini-menu. 14:37:42 From Glenn Workman : Its also in the Mixing Board mini-menu. 14:37:49 From Ken Thies : Re non-audio data in broadcast wave, and DP's handling thereof, is there a way to import broadcast wave markers into DP/ Even just something like "split soundbite at bwave markers" would do it. 14:38:28 From Glenn Workman : Hiro: We can zoom together after webinar if we need to. 14:38:51 From Mark Kelso : Thanks everyone, and of course Matt, Jim, and Glenn. Today was packed with helpful hints! 14:39:18 From David Davis : Ctrl Click does not activate right click for me 14:39:32 From Benoit Widemann : Looks like a protocol issue (HUI or whatever) 14:39:32 From Roddy J. Betancourt : 2 fingers 14:39:44 From Roddy J. Betancourt : 2 FINGERS 14:40:19 From Ken Thies : Thanks, everyone! 14:41:04 From george 'nk_e' napier : THANKS MATT AND JIM. Terry Britton: Thanks again for the summary of aux tracks usage. Huge timesaver! 14:41:30 From David Stowell : Thanks for another great session. 14:41:37 From Dan Wool : Thanks for these! Looking forward to having the videos for all these, hopefully soon 14:41:40 From Paul Colombo : Please don’t take too long to finish the webinars! We’re home now and can use the vids! 14:41:41 From James Paschall : Thanks, Matt and Jim. Very comprehensive session. 14:41:46 From Kerwin Young : Thanks Matt!! 14:41:57 From Reed Robins : Thanks!!!
